Application Process & Prerequisites

The MCIP Masters’ Program is a research graduate program in which students are required to conduct an original research project under the guidance of a faculty member from the Michigan State University Department of Physiology.

Therefore, *before* starting an application to the program you must:

  • Identify a faculty member from the Department of Physiology who is willing to be your Research Thesis Advisor if you are admitted into the MCIP Masters’ program. Review information about this process here. A list of faculty that are training graduate students is available here.
  • Obtain a Letter of Support from the Research Thesis Advisor for your application. See more about the letter requirements

The application process

A complete application consists of ALL of the following components: 

  1. Online Graduate School Application (program code: 7107)
  2. Departmental Questionnaire
  3. Letter of Recommedation This letter should be from someone who can describe your skills, personal characteristics, experience, aptitude for the MCIP Masters' program.
  4. Letter of Support from the Research Thesis Advisor. This letter must come from a Department of Physiology faculty member who commits to supervise your thesis research in their laboratory at Michigan State University. See list of eligible faculty here and letter requirements here. 
  5. Official transcript of grades from all schools attended after high school
  6.  Current TOEFL scores (if applicable) GRE/TOEFL Codes: MSU Institutional Code = 1465; Department Code =0217

Email items 2-6 (Department questionnaire, Letter of Recommendation, Letter of Support the Research Thesis Advisor, Official Transcripts, and TOFEL scores) to MCIP Masters' Program at pslgrad@msu.edu

Application Deadlines:

June 1 for start in fall 
September 15 for start in spring

Prerequisites:

The typical undergraduate and/or graduate GPA is greater than 3.0. TOEFL paper-based scores of greater than 600, Section 1 score greater than 62 and no section less than 53; TOEFL computer-based scores of greater 250, Section 1 score of 26 or above, and no other score less than 19.
