Dr. Yang has research interests in three fields: chemical carcinogenesis, breast cancer, and cancer chemoprevention. He studies chemical carcinogenesis (particularly metal carcinogenesis) and cancer biology focusing on epigenetic mechanisms leading to cancer initiation and metastasis. Dr. Yang's laboratory is investigating how chemical carcinogens (particularly metal carcinogens) deregulate epigenetics, and how deregulated epigenetics such as DNA methylation, histone post-translational modifications (methylation, acetylation, etc.), and non-coding RNAs (microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs) contribute to cancer initiation and metastasis. Dr.Yang is also working to identify natural compounds for cancer prevention and cancer therapeutic sensitization.
